Tuberculosis Diagnostic Method Published in Nature Scientific Reports

Research co-developed by Masdiag's team on detection and identification of Mycobacterium species by flow injection analysis-mass spectrometry is published in Nature Scientific Reports.

Published in Nature Scientific Reports

The long-awaited work on the diagnosis of tuberculosis using mass spectrometry has finally been published in Nature Scientific Reports. This publication represents the culmination of many years of personal involvement and collaborative research.

Background

The project began over 15 years ago with a conversation between Konrad Kowalski and Prof. Wiesława Rudnicka from the University of Łódź about what would become a master’s thesis topic. Over the years, with the support of supervisors Magdalena Druszczyńska and Rafał Szewczyk, the team managed to turn the idea into a reality and set the foundations for its subsequent commercialisation.

The technology is now in the hands of Karol Majewski and Bartłomiej Szulc from the DiMedical team, who are continuing its development and commercialisation.

Impact

This technology has the potential to transform the diagnosis of tuberculosis by providing rapid, accurate identification of Mycobacterium species using flow injection analysis coupled with mass spectrometry. The method offers significant advantages over conventional culture-based diagnostics in terms of speed and specificity.
